Soar like an Eagle!

Filed under: Uncategorized — lawsonjolly @ 5:00 am

The American Bald Eagle!  The eagle was chosen in 1782 as the American National Bird, and later that year became the central figure in the official national seal.

It is not often that we get to see these magnificent birds.  They are large birds and yet are swift in flight.  They have characteristics that set them apart from the other creatures of the air. Known as the king of birds, they can rise high into the heavens and can stay there for hours without any effort.  It is as though it is a resting time for them apart from the world.  They likewise can endure a storm like few other birds.  Their claws can grip a rock and hold on against the blowing wind.

I can learn much from an eagle.  But then, God meant for me to learn some lessons from this wonderful bird.  Often I have read in Isaiah 40, beginning with verse 28,  that all of us get tired and weary, regardless of our age.  Some of us may even begin to stumble from our weariness and burdens.  But then the Word tells us how to renew our strength.  Our hope and trust in the Lord can exchange our weakness for His strength.  When we are willing to accept  His unfailing strength for our failing strength, we will be compared to a soaring eagle.  “They will soar on wings like eagles.”  (Isaiah 40:31b)

Let’s grasp this lesson.  The eagle can fly so high and stay aloft so long that it can be above that storm blowing across the land. It  gives  a sense of peace and rest.  And yet the eagle, if caught in a storm, can  hold on with such a grip to a rock that it can ride out the storm.

For those who choose God as our Strength to be within us, we can face everyday, whatever it might bring. And we  will have  a confidence and energy that others probably would not understand.  There will be days through Him that you will live and soar above the storm, and other days as you get caught in the storm you will not be swept away but will survive.

Confidence should come to us today since we know from where our strength comes.  As the eagle, we are built for storms.  We can soar above it, or we can ride it out!  And because of Him!

“O God our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come,  Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home!”    (Isaac Watts 1674-1748)

Sing it as you go today!
