The U-Haul Truck on I-75

From time to time I give you testimony of God’s gracious protection.  There are so many incidents in my life where God has provided His protective hand.  One of the less dramatic was an event many years ago.

I was driving a U-Haul truck from our home in Florida to my father’s home in Georgia to pick up some furniture that he wanted to give us.  Traveling north on I-75, I crested a hill.  Suddenly I felt that I was going to faint.  In those few seconds I knew that I was losing consciousness.  And I did!

In the course of time, whether it was a couple of minutes or an hour, I revived.  I was still in the truck in the driver’s seat.  The truck was at the bottom of that long hill, parked on the right-of-way with the engine off, and the transmission in park.  What had happened?  I had lost consciousness.  There was no way that I could have driven the truck to a stop.  Some may be skeptical and try to explain  that I just lost my sense of memory, or some other explanation.

The explanation for me?  Since I am the one it happened to, I will not argue or debate possibilities.  I will be emphatic.  God provided protection!  How?  An angel? His Presence?  Who can know how God did it?  But I know He did!

What prompted God’s intervention to provide such protection for me?  Consider all the possible results that could have occurred.  I could have caused  a serious accident with other vehicles.  I could have gone off the shoulder of the road and down that steep embankment or a myriad of other things.  Was God protecting me, or others, or both?

Did God do a wonderful work of love in response to a request?  Had I prayed before the trip for His divine guidance and protection?  Had my wife back at home prayed for my safety?  Did God just do a loving act as a caring, Heavenly Father?  Certainly, I do not have all these answers. Yet, I can give Him praise and thanksgiving because such safety, protection, and deliverance was because of Him!  Remember the words of that old beloved song?  “His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.”

What a wonderful Heavenly Father we have!
