Five Times Married

Filed under: Uncategorized — lawsonjolly @ 5:00 am

“Love and marriage, love and marriage,  go together like a horse and carriage.  This I tell you brother, you can’t have one without the other.”  Remember that song?  There are more words to it.  “It’s an institution you can’t disparage, ask the local  gentry and they will say it’s elementary.”

The old song, made famous by Frank Sinatra, says it plainly.   Love and marriage do go together . . . and it is elementary–everyone should know that!  Then what is this title, Five Times Married?

I assure you it has no reference to someone having been married five times!  But it does have to do with love and marriage in one family.  It is a beautiful family.  There are five children.  They are all married now, and so there are five happy marriages!

I know there are a few families who have five children and they are all married.  But I speak of these five from a personal perspective.  There are not many siblings that number five who can claim that the same pastor married all of them!  Yes, I have had the special privilege to marry all five of these siblings.  Over the past 15 years, regardless of the location or residency, I have been invited to perform each wedding.

Last week, number five got married.  They have not married in chronological order, but in the time that God planned for each.  Each one has entered into the marriage relationship with the confidence that it has been God’s plan for their life.  Those siblings I have married in previous years, all have children now and have established Christian homes.

What a joy to perform weddings such as these.  I have claimed the privilege to perform the ceremony for their children.  My only request is that they get married in the next future 25 years!  It is certainly possible!  Several of them will be well into their twenties, and I will still be within my 100 years!

Weddings are always such a joyful time.  Unfortunately, some marriages do not express that same joy and happiness in the years that follow.  Yet, there is nothing more wonderful than a marriage of love that is expressed in a friendship and togetherness that will weather anything faced.

Many marriages struggle because God is not involved.  I recognize that some have difficulty even when God is acknowledged in the lives of the individuals.  Yet, if God is allowed to have priority in both lives, I know a marriage can not only endure, but have that expected joy and fulfillment that was there on the day of the wedding.

Please see my blog Strengthen Your Marriage, www.lawsonjolly.com/2010/01/08.  My diagram and explanation is certainly worthy of acknowledgement for those planning marriage, and an absolute necessity for those presently married.  Nothing can ever fail when God is truly in charge!  Marriage is God’s plan and design.  Allow Him to bring the fulfillment of the relationship.

“The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone.  I will make a helper suitable for him.'”
