Statement of Ministry

Filed under: Uncategorized — lawsonjolly @ 5:00 am

Although my blogs are not written to the church or as advice from a pastor, there are days when I have to be straight forward about some things,  I guess this is one of those days.

We have begun serving another church as interim pastor, and perhaps as a result of always wanting people to know where I stand, I share with you today my statement of ministry.

Fifty-five years ago I began following the Lord in His call to ministry.  That ministry has varied in different responsibilities and locations.  However, a statement the Lord led me to of my ministry in those earlier years has not changed.  It is all directly from Scripture.

My Purpose

“When I came to you brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.  For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.  I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling.  My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.”  (1 Corinthians 2:1-5)

My Defense

“So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God.  Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove themselves faithful.  I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself.  My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent.  It is the Lord who judges me.  Therefore, judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes.  He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts.  At that time each will receive his praise from God.”  (1 Corinthians 4:1-5)

My Accountability

“Obey your leaders and submit to their authority.  they keep watch over you as men who must give an account.  Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.”  (Hebrews 13:17)

This is my personal constitution.  It states my commitment to ministry.  All of us should have a statement that firmly acknowledges our commitment to our life.

  2. Pastor Jolly: What a wonderful statement of ministry. I have been thinking a lot about my ministry and what the Lord would have me do. Ofcourse not just thinking, but praying because I want to be where the Lord wants me and do what HE would have me do!
